This special edition offers fans rare, archival recordings that provide an intimate look into the early creative foundations of Fat Mike’s Cokie the Clown project.
“I had no idea what depression was. I’d always been happy. Even when I went through shitty times, I always made the best of it…… When I recorded the songs for the Cokie the Clown album, I didn’t know it at the time….. but I was in a state of depression. I was on oxy’s, I was doing coke every day, I was drinking a handle of vodka every day, I was going through a very painful divorce, I was…. I was lost….
The only thing I could concentrate on was recording this album. I started recording it at my studio with BAZ. Then I got Travis Barker to play drums on it at Feldy’s studio. Feldy got mad at me cuz I did coke in front of him…. He told me to leave. I thought it was standard to do drugs in a recording studio….Then I moved into Danny Lohner from NIN’s house. I lived in his guest room for the next two months.
I don’t remember a lot of it. I didn’t leave, I didn’t shave, I dressed in the same dresses and leather and recoiled from everyone. I do remember I sang every song on the floor curled up in a corner. Danny told me that my voice was broken. He tried his best to get me to stop doing drugs and sing like he knew I could…. I never did. Trying to sing about the worst tragedies of your life isn’t easy.
This album isn’t performance art. This album is me without protection. Without skin. Without conscience…. Without love. This album is my inside out. I sang about things that I should have never even talked about. I sang hurtful and awful things that I rationalized to myself as art. Like it was ok because I am an artist. It isn’t ok. I am sorry.
The Cokie the Clown album is one of the biggest regrets of my life, and I hate to say….it might be the best album I’ve ever made. This 6 song demo is me at my bottom….” – Fat Mike.

Artifact Of The Month: 1980 Black Gibson SG Guitar owned by Al Barile from SS Decontrol

“When I initially started, my first guitar was a Fender, but it didn’t have the thick, heavy sound I was looking for, so I bought this 1980 Gibson SG, which I used for the first SS Decontrol record ‘The Kids Will Have Their Say’. This guitar had been through some real road wars until December of 1982, when SS Decontrol played with Bad Brains for one of their famous ‘retirement shows’ at CBGB’s. During our last song that night, I jumped high, and when my body hit the stage, the guitar broke in two right at the base of the neck. I remember going out to the van with Nancy after the show and feeling terrible that I failed to protect the neck when coming down from the jump. Eventually, guitar luthier Alec Geanoulis repaired and repainted it so you couldn’t even tell the neck had ever been broken. The guitar was originally a natural firebrand walnut finish. In 1985, I sold my Marshall amp and this Gibson SG to Bobby Frankenheim so that I could buy a Kawasaki 550 Jet Ski. Bobby had the guitar for more than thirty years, and then, in an awesome gesture, decided to bring it back to me. It was unbelievably cool to be reunited with it again.” – Al Barile.

On Thursday, October 24th, at 8 pm, make sure to dust off your steins and sharpen your sense of humour as HEiNO! is back at The Punk Rock Museum for one night only of bizarre brilliance, bratwurst beats, and bizarre Germanic glee at Pünktoberfest with Heino!

Expect songs you didn’t know you knew, a few you wish you didn’t, and plenty of “schlapp und pickle” to go around. With HEiNO! looming like a blonde, Teutonic specter over the evening’s festivities, and Old Weird Eyes channeling the spirit of a thousand misunderstood karaoke nights, this is one Oktoberfest you’ll never forget—and possibly never fully understand.
Break out the lederhosen, bring your worst German accent, and prepare for a night of unsettling joy at Pünktoberfest—because nothing says punk like polka, parody, and postmodern performance art gone wonderfully wrong.
