Tigers Jaw today released their affecting new single ‘Primary Colors’ and its Britain Weyant-directed video previewing the band’s anticipated forthcoming LP ‘Lost on You’ due out on March 27th (Hopeless Records). A classic TJ duet of lush interchanging vocals and harmonies between singers Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins, its stunning video–featuring the quintet playing throughout–reflects the song’s bittersweet reflection on time and memory.
Walsh explains: “‘Primary Colors’ is about being so wrapped up in the aftermath of something that it overwhelms your senses entirely. When you’re stuck somewhere between reflecting on the ‘what ifs,’ and finding the resolve to move forward. We recreated that mental space in the music video as a performance space that had doorways to memories, journeying through a relationship from the very first sparks to the slow unraveling.”
Tickets are going fast for many shows on the band’s extensive headlining spring tour following the album’s release, including a now sold-out show at LA’s The Regent Theatre (6/07), and recently announced gigs at Rough Trade New York (3/26) and Cambridge, MA’s The Sinclair (3/30); a full itinerary is listed below and tickets are on-sale now.
‘Lost on You’ –produced/engineered by their longtime collaborator Will Yip (Turnstile, Movements) at his famed Studio 4 in Philadelphia–is a continuation of what we’ve always loved about Tigers Jaw. There’s the powerful and pounding rhythm section, the great melodic leads that shift from instrument to instrument, and, as always, the interchanging and overlapping vocals. And while this record is decidedly from the present, it is deeply embedded in their history. There are many moments that would feel just as at home sung along to at the defunct Scranton venue Test Pattern as they would in the huge halls of Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, a venue probably ten-times as large that they are now able to sell out. This is not surprising. The scene’s present moment owes a lot to Tigers Jaw; their contributions have helped pave the way for this entire world, and still the group continues on.
