Zaphomet is a Hungarian formation founded in 2026, merging heavy guitars with dark electronic textures. This project stands as a reaction to loss, a space where melancholy, rage, and beauty are not resolved, but fully lived through. “It moves in an electro metal dark pop direction, leaning closer to the world of Poppy, Spiritbox, DeathbyRomy and VANA, a path that was perhaps first hinted at with our ‘Weeping Willow’ release. This project came out of a period where music itself stopped making sense for a while, a kind of creative reset driven by loss, melancholy, fury and fear,” shares the band.
Born as the new brainchild of The Hellfreaks’ songwriters, a band with millions of streams worldwide, Zaphomet marks a shift into a more personal and uncompromising territory, balancing the weight of metal with modern production. Horror runs through the core of the project. Not as decoration, but as something strangely grounding. Their sound and visuals lean into distorted, unsettling atmospheres that reflect an inner landscape rather than escape it.
Their new single ‘Ugly’ questions the idea of beauty as something that can only exist in contrast. It was written during a period when life itself felt particularly harsh and difficult to recognize. The song became a way to process that tension, holding onto the idea that opposites define each other, beauty and ugliness, love and grief – one doesn’t exist without the other.
