Moving between warped drill textures and Jersey club bounce, MOBO Award-winning rapper Pozer announces his much-anticipated debut mixtape ‘Crossroads’, arriving 29th May. Spanning 12 tracks, ‘Crossroads’ is Pozer’s most reflective body of work to date, unpacking identity, ambition and the weight of where he’s from as he looks to break the generational cycles that shaped him.
Speaking on the tape, Pozer said: “‘Crossroads’ is a representation of where my life is right now, I’m at a crossroads between my life before music and my life going forward. I want the listeners to listen to it and feel motivated to chase their dreams through hearing me talk about all of the hurdles before me getting to where I am. It’s an indescribable feeling to be putting this out into the world. I feel like it’s a combination of a lot of things, but it’s exciting to say the least.”
The announcement lands with new single ‘MF DOOM’. Built on heavy bass and piercing pipes, the track sees Pozer lean into themes of anonymity and control, referencing the masked legacy of MF DOOM as he tears through the dread-inducing beat with an unrelenting, full-force delivery.
The cinematic accompanying visual (directed by long-time collaborators Red Moons), forms the second part of an ongoing trilogy. Shot in stark black and white with flashes of blood red, the visual moves between rooftop scenes in Croydon and masked, narrative-driven moments, building towards a closing shot of a distant explosion that lingers long after the track ends.
The world of ‘Crossroads’ begins to take shape through its early releases, a project that expands Pozer’s sound while staying rooted in the perspective that first set him apart. ‘MF DOOM’ sits alongside the long-awaited AJ Tracey collaboration ‘Hulk Hogan’, which finally landed last month after two years of anticipation, alongside cuts like the sharp, self-assured ‘Money & Power’ and last summer’s breakout ‘Jersey King’.
With ‘Crossroads’ , Pozer takes the stage as UK rap’s next generational talent.
