New York genre disruptors Oxymorrons return today with ‘Bombs Over Gaza’, the first single from their forthcoming album, ‘Mohawks & Durags 2: Project Big Apple’. Blending hip-hop, punk, hardcore, alternative rock and Latin rhythms, the track is high-energy and infectious while tackling something much heavier, channeling the anger and frustration of watching a world increasingly shaped by war and division.
The song takes inspiration from the fearless creative spirit of OutKast’s iconic ‘B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)’, one of the band’s biggest influences. Rather than recreate it, Oxymorrons wanted to capture that same sense of creative freedom through their own lens, more than 25 years later. The result feels distinctly Oxy: politically aware, chaotic and incredibly fun at the same time, turning frustration and anger into something you can move to.
The cover art, photographed by Norma Ibarra (VANS, Toronto Raptors), carries that same sense of duality through the image of a watermelon. In Palestine, its red, green, black and white have made it an enduring symbol of identity and resistance, particularly during periods when public display of the Palestinian flag was restricted. In the United States, watermelon has its own complicated history – once a source of economic independence for newly emancipated Black Americans, it was later weaponized through racist caricature. In true Oxymorrons fashion, the band use the image to connect two histories where the same symbol has represented both liberation and oppression.
That energy carries into the official video, shot at Substance Skate Park in Brooklyn, NY and directed / produced by VRTU Presents, Urban Soul Productions and ATTN Deficit. Cast in collaboration with Melanated-Alt / Rock-HipHop culture curators Let ME Rock, the visual brings together a room full of Black and BIPOC punks as Oxymorrons tear through a wild performance, surrounded by dancing, moshing, skating and all-out chaos.
More than simply a performance video, it captures the community Oxsymorrons have been building throughout their career and a side of punk culture that still isn’t always represented on screen. It’s a room full of people who look like them, love the same music they do and don’t see any contradiction between Black culture, punk and hip-hop.

‘Bombs Over Gaza’ offers the first look at ‘Mohawks & Durags 2: Project Big Apple’, a new chapter that pushes Oxymorrons‘ self-described “genre gumbo” even further, bringing together hip-hop, punk, hardcore, alternative rock, Latin influences and the cultural melting pot of their hometown.
That same mix has made Oxymorrons an undeniable live band, sharing stages with Bad Omens, Corey Taylor, Sleep Theory and, most recently, letlive. This fall, they’ll return to the road with appearances at Magnolia Park’s Halloween Fest in Orlando and Vans Warped Tour Orlando in November, along with upcoming dates in 2026 and 2027 with MISSIO.
