Kimmy Fasani announces ‘Butterfly in a Blizzard’ documentary film

Professional snowboarder Kimmy Fasani has announced her brand new documentary titled ‘Butterfly In A Blizzard’. Fasani began snowboarding at the age of 9, and started competing when she was 15 years old. She became a Mammoth local, became the first woman to land a double backflip in a terrain park, and filmed for Absinthe Films. ‘Butterfly In A Blizzard’ presents a look at her journey into motherhood, and all of the hardships that came along the way: childhood trauma, relationship struggles, and her cancer diagnosis. The film was directed by Rose Corr and Tyler Hamlet.

“Vulnerable, exposing, and stripped of all expectations of what motherhood would be, this film follows my family and I through our peaks and valleys of life for the past 7 years. Initially, Chris Benchetler and I intended to make a film documenting our journey of becoming parents, while navigating our careers as professional athletes — focused around advocating for verbiage changes in contracts that would allow and support all future mothers to balance their career and motherhood. We quickly realized this film would be a much deeper dive into everything that has shaped me — becoming a professional athlete, childhood trauma, loss of parents, Koa’s sickness, and my cancer diagnosis while embracing the transformation through Matrescense — which encompasses the psychological, social, cultural, and existential changes that women occur as they transition into motherhood. This metamorphosis of life and the challenges our family has faced has strengthened our resilience as humans. I hope that by sharing our story, we will inspire others to feel less alone as they navigate their own hardships,” shares Kimmy Fasani on her Instagram profile.
