Simple Session premiere documentary ‘Life is Just a Ride’

Simple Session premiere ‘Life is Just a Ride,’ a documentary directed by Maria Reinup. The documentary will also be the first Estonian film production to be available on the global Red Bull TV platform (premiere on February 5th). Red Bull TV has been a longtime partner of Simple Session with its annual LIVE broadcast of the competitions in Saku Suurhall, Tallinn, Estonia.

‘Life is Just a Ride’ is a documentary that follows three different characters during Simple Session, one of the world’s most significant action sports events. Reed Stark is a world-renowned BMX rider from the United States. Madars Apse is one of the best European skateboarders, whose professional career began at Simple Session. Risto Kalmre is one of the masterminds behind the event series that came to life from a pile of dirt 20 years ago in a small Northern European country, Estonia. The movie also features Bam MargeraDarryl Nau, and other well-known people of the global BMX and skateboarding scene and allows to get a glimpse of the backstage life of the high-profile international contest.

‘Life is Just a Ride’ was first screened at the 20th edition of the annual Simple Session last February, followed by a successful festival premiere at the Tallinn Black Night’s Film Festival, where the uplifting documentary was well received by the younger audience in the Just Film youth program.

Maria Reinup is an Estonian film director. Her first short film “Mai” traveled to festivals around the world and won multiple awards. For the past five years Maria has been working outside of Estonia, most notably as the Second Unit Director on the Fox Searchlight’s “Tolkien.” Currently, Maria is developing her first feature film together with producer Helen Vinogradov. “Life is just a ride” is Maria’s first medium-length documentary.
