Stormzy Makes a triumphant return with ‘Toxic Trait’ featuring Fredo

Stormzy is back with a bang, teaming up with producer Dave and fellow rapper Fredo for their new collaboration, ‘Toxic Trait.’ This track marks Stormzy‘s first release since his critically acclaimed third album, ‘This Is What I Mean.’ To accompany the song, an official music video has been unveiled, featuring the charismatic Alison Hammond among other notable personalities.

The video’s director, Femi Ladi, wanted to infuse the visuals with fun and creativity. “After listening to the lyrics, I wanted to have fun with this video. I liked the idea of bringing a renaissance-style painting to life, whilst still feeling grounded in the world of Stormzy. We collaborated on all the scenarios together which was great – as well as being able to bring in the likes of Fredo and Alison Hammond for their own toxic therapy sessions!” he shared.

Following the release of his latest album last November, Stormzy revealed that he has been hard at work on new material. In an interview with Rolling Stone UK, he expressed his satisfaction with his current trajectory. “I think I’m just where I’m meant to be, and I’m who I’m meant to be and I’m doing what I’m meant to do,”  he said and added: “I think the album reaffirmed my confidence, and it let me know that I should always stick to my guns, and I should always be brave. I think even going forward with other albums, and new music, it’s like, ‘Just always trust yourself, back yourself to be brave, and be confident with your musical decisions, and carry on being free, and carry on being the cowboy and carry on just going into whatever musical terrain or musical experience that you want to do.’”

In addition to his new music, Stormzy has exciting plans for the summer. He will be taking over London’s Victoria Park on August 18 as part of the APE gig series. Not only has he curated the entire lineup for the day, but he will also deliver a headline performance in the evening. Joining him on stage will be an impressive roster of talented artists, including Kehlani, Sampha, Knucks, Lucky Daye, WSTRN, Ms Banks, and The No Signal Stage.
