The Punk Rock Museum announces tourguides and events for April

The Punk Rock Museum is the world’s most comprehensive attraction dedicated to the history of the music, culture, and absurdity of punk rock. Located in Las Vegas, it houses artifacts and memorabilia from across the world’s punk scene—such as handwritten lyrics, instruments, clothing, photos, flyers, and artwork.

Encompassing 12,000 square feet at 1422 Western Ave, between the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown, the museum celebrates the genre’s substantial cultural impact over the last half-century. This year’s February tour guides are CJ Ramone (Ramones / Spike and the Gimme Gimmes), Spike Slawson (Spike and the Gimme Gimmes), Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats), Jaret Reddick (Bowling For Soup), Pete Kollar (Sick Of It All), Jay Weinberg (Slipknot / Suicidal Tendencies), Mitch Harris (Napalm Death), Scott Ian (Anthrax / Mr. Bungle) and Justin Warfield (She Wants Revenge).

April 3rd: 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up Las Vegas Premiere Screening!

40 Years of Fuckin’ Up Las Vegas Premiere Screening!

11:00 PM – Doors open for the midnight screening of ’40 Years of Fuckin’ Up’

’40 Years of Fuckin’ Up’ is Spinal Tap, but real. It’s a film about the infamous, fairly unfamous, and beloved punk rock band NOFX. This is the unbelievable story about how a group of untalented, drug-addled teenage punks somehow became the most successful independent band in history. And they did it haphazardly all on their own.

“Most people wouldn’t be ok with releasing a film that shows footage of getting whipped in their dungeon, or their drug use for the past 20 years, or dressing up like a cheap rubber whore, or the ambulance ride when they were naked while puking and shitting blood… I’m not like most people.”Fat Mike.

April 17th: Record Store Day – Blacklist Royals record release, book talk and signing!

Blacklist Royals’ new EP ‘Punk Rock Survivors’ is an anthemic reminder of music’s power to sustain hope, even in the Shadow of Death. ‘Punk Rock Survivors’ is coming out on April 17th via Bottles To The Ground. The release will be available in person at the museum’s record store, Vinyl Threat, and online through the museum’s official web store. As well as a very special cancer awareness variant available directly from the band.

Nat and Rob Rufus started their first punk band at thirteen. By high school, they were invited on Warped Tour. But then tragedy struck . . . Rob was diagnosed with Stage Four cancer. Nat hit the road to keep their punk rock dreams alive. Rob lived in hospitals and went through years of horrific treatments and surgeries that left him disabled. A second Stage Four cancer diagnosis followed.

But Rob survived, against all odds. He relearned how to drum despite his disabilities, and they moved to Nashville and formed Blacklist Royals. They played hundreds of DIY shows before signing to prominent indie label Paper + Plastick Records. Their debut LP, ‘Semper Liberi’, hit the scene by storm. Their follow-up, ‘Die Young With Me’, was released on Universal Music Group and produced by Grammy Winner Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Flogging Molly).

In 2016, Rob’s memoir— ‘Die Young With Me’—was published by Simon & Schuster. It won the American Library Association Award and was hailed as one of the best books of the year. The book inspired countless readers and introduced the twins to a new generation of fans.

From there, the twins branched out on numerous musical projects, one of which led to a friendship with Fat Mike and the release of their new EP ‘Punk Rock Survivors’. It is a return to form; a collection of blistering, catchy songs with lyrics steeped in emotional heft, a siren song calling survivors of all stripes to find strength through the power of punk.

“I think our new EP ‘Punk Rock Survivors’ is the best record we’ve ever done, its message is one of hope and perseverance, and its sound captures the early days of our basement band practices – fast, raw, melodic, punk’n’roll. The title track was inspired by advice we’d gotten from Fat Mike, “write lyrics no one wants to hear. This pushed us to be both more vulnerable and brave, with what we were willing to take on topically. Life ain’t always pretty, in fact, it rarely is for most people, but I think by addressing our own dark times honestly through art, we can lift one another along the way.”Blacklist Royals.

Finding Joseph I: An Oral History of H.R. from Bad Brains

A thoroughly uncensored rollercoaster ride through the riotous, tumultuous and utterly singular life and career of punk rock’s most enigmatic singer. Foreword by Randall J. Blythe of Lamb of God. This gripping oral history features H.R. himself and the people who know him best, including Ian MacKaye, Questlove and members of Sublime and the Deftones.

The spiritual leader of Bad Brains was one of the most iconic and legendary frontmen in punk rock and hardcore. Paul “H.R.” Hudson launched his unique, ferocious vocal assault and dynamic physical showmanship with love and Rasta in his heart, along with a hopefulness seldom found in punk. His journey has been riddled with unprecedented volatility: drugs, violence, disappearances and a debilitating mental illness.

Vinnie Stigma: The Most Interesting Man in the World

The Godfather of New York City hardcore and founding member of Agnostic Front invites you into his Lower East Side pad to regale you with tales from his extraordinary life among mobsters, punk rockers, and a bevy of iconic artists and personalities—none of whom is as fascinating as the inimitable Vinnie Stigma!

The Blood and the Sweat: The Story of Sick of It All’s Koller Brothers

When it comes to New York City hardcore, its community proudly boasts Lou and Pete Koller—brothers who have dominated the scene worldwide since 1986 with the aurally devastating Sick of It All as their vehicle. ‘The Blood and the Sweat’ is the no-holds-barred autobiography of two brothers who have never wavered, as well as an unrelenting depiction of the American dream, and the drive and determination required to live it—regardless of whatever obstacles appear before you. Featuring commentary from family, friends, bandmates past and present, and their peers, including Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer), Kurt Brecht (D.R.I.), Barney Greenway (Napalm Death), and more.

Die Young With Me – by Rob Rufus.

Ten years ago, Die Young With Me took the literary scene by storm. Now re-released in a deluxe anniversary audio format, the punk rock memoir of survival is connecting with a new generation of readers.

Die Young With Me is the true story of a teenager diagnosed with cancer and how music was the one thing that helped him get through his darkest days. All books will be available for purchase and to be signed at this event.

April 24th: Crossover Corner photo exhibition by Alison Braun

Crossover Corner photo exhibition by Alison Braun

On Friday, April 24th, The Punk Rock Museum will host an opening for Fast As Hell. Louder Than Both. This is a new exhibition by photographer Alison Braun. It is a visual record of a cultural turning point when underground music scenes overlapped and redefined one another.

Braun’s early body of work includes striking images of Black Flag and Bad Brains, captured at a time when the hardcore movement was volatile, physical, and defiantly DIY. As hardcore accelerated and metal grew more technical and aggressive, Braun’s lens tracked the shift.

Bands such as D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, and Corrosion of Conformity represent the cultural transformation Braun documented in real time. These artists rejected genre purity, fusing skate culture, hardcore urgency, and metal musicianship into something raw, confrontational, and entirely new.

Many of the photographs featured also appear in Braun’s book, Shot in the Dark: Metal Volume, available for purchase in the museum’s gift store.

This photo exhibition will open alongside the museum’s debut of Crossover Corner, offering visitors a deeper look into the powerful intersection between punk and metal music.

Crossover Corner highlights influential metal bands that emerged from punk roots and punk bands that evolved toward metal. The exhibition captures the raw energy, style, and cultural impact that shaped the crossover movement between the two genres.

By pairing photography with historical artifacts, the museum offers a vivid look at the artists and communities that helped forge the crossover sound, celebrating a moment in music history when punk and metal collided to create something entirely new.

Green Day’s first show at 924 Gilman Street as ‘Green Day was in early 1989, often cited around the time they opened for Operation Ivy’s final shows. Before this, they played the venue as their previous band, Sweet Children, starting in November 1988. They became a staple act, playing monthly until they were banned in 1993 for signing to a major label. This gear is on loan from Fletcher Dragge.

“Used by Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) at the band’s very first show on Gilman Street.”Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise.
