Post-hardcore band Fly Over States unleash ‘Ghosts’ EP

Montana band Fly Over States have expertly crafted an infectious blend of post-hardcore, screamo, and metalcore on their new EP ‘Ghosts’, out today on Fever Ltd. The four tracks are filled with fiesty vocals, tight-knit rhythms, and a wallowing sense of urgency. The bulk of the lyrics address the perils of technology and struggles with mental health.

Diving deeper into the stories found on the EP, vocalist and guitarist Gunnar Stephan states: “The first three songs are about workplace related accidents, specifically the Piet de Wit wind turbine accident and the Paria diving incident, wanting to somewhat memorialize the people that lost their lives and to curse the unfortunate capitalistic machine that put them into those situations. I wanted listeners to be able to put themselves into the story as well, adding a lot of introspection into my own interpretation of the aforementioned incidents. ‘Slingshot’ is the only song on this release that isn’t a telling of another story. It’s about coming to terms with needing help and communicating that. No one is ‘self made,’ and until you recognize that the people around you should be a support system, and a symbiotic support system at that, you can’t fully realize your potential.”

‘Ghosts’ was recorded with Phil Yanzick (of Montana band Hibernator) in his studio in Basin, Montana, mixed by Abe Anderson, and the mastered by Kris Crummett.

Fly Over States will head out midwest tour in June alongside Hey, Ily with Blind Equation, Red Sun, and Endswell on select dates. Routing below.
