LA indie-pop band Transviolet has released a new single titled ‘Clean Laundry’ (ft. Dreamers). After a successful catfishing on a musician networking website, Sarah McTaggart began to collaborate with producer and bassist Mike Panek across the world, and over the internet writing the beginnings of what would eventually become Transviolet.
She made the move from the Cayman Islands to Toronto, landing eventually in San Diego where they met for the first time and sparks flew, or at the very least no one was serial killed. Jon Garcia was brought in on drums, and later Judah McCarthy on guitar and keys after moving to LA and signing their first publishing deal.
For two years the band locked themselves in studios across the purgatory that is the San Fernando Valley (which would later be the title of their 2018 release), writing song after song, until piquing the interest of LA Reid and their first major-label partner EPIC Records.
Speaking of the new song, Sarah McTaggart shares: “‘Clean Laundry’ originated with a track created by drummer/producer Jon Garcia. I loved chill vibe and pulled it up in a Zoom session I had with long time collaborator Ben Greenspan. I started singing over it and the verse and pre came together pretty quickly. We labored over the chorus a bit, and left feeling unsure about it. When we pulled it up again, the chorus was underwhelming, so we scrapped what we had and rewrote it. The new one was really different, but we immediately knew it was something special. Ben added his production ideas- he’s a master of this wonderful collection of pedals and analog synths that give everything a really warm nostalgic feel. When I shared it with the band, everyone was really excited and into it.”
She continues: “They finished up the production, and around the same time we were looking for someone to feature on another track. We’d reached out to a few different people, and by the time we heard back from Nick, we’d already agreed to have another artist on it. We really wanted to do a track with Nick/Dreamers, and thought it would be cool to have him on ‘Clean Laundry’ instead. Luckily, he was into it, and agreed to write and sing on it. Since we were still in the middle of quarantine, we worked remotely, and Nick wrote, sang, and recorded his parts on his own. We all loved what he brought to the song, and are looking forward to performing it at a festival together one day!”
